Ragnarok Landverse: A New Chapter in the Iconic MMORPG’s Legacy

Reviving a Classic for the Web3 Era
Gaming nostalgia is a powerful thing, and few titles hold the same sentimental value as Ragnarok Online. If you were part of the MMORPG boom in the 2000s, chances are you’ve spent countless hours battling monsters, leveling up, and forming guilds with friends. Now, this beloved classic is getting an exciting Web3 refresh with Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis, set to debut in early 2025 on Sky Mavis’ Ronin Network.
With blockchain integration and fresh gameplay experiences, this launch promises to merge the timeless appeal of Ragnarok Online with the innovative possibilities of Web3 gaming. Let’s dive into what makes this new version a game-changer.
A New Age for Ragnarok Online
More than two decades since its original launch, Ragnarok Online continues to captivate millions of players worldwide. With over 100 million users and $2 billion in revenue, it has proven itself to be more than just a game—it’s a cultural phenomenon. Now, thanks to a partnership between Sky Mavis and blockchain gaming platform Zentry, Ragnarok Landverse is entering the next frontier.
Zentry—and its commitment to blockchain gaming—has already made waves with the Web3 version of Ragnarok Landverse, launched in September 2023. Since then, it has attracted over 400,000 players and generated $18.9 million in revenue, particularly gaining traction in Southeast Asia.
However, Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis isn’t just a continuation of the existing game—it’s a brand-new Web3 experience, exclusively for Ronin. To clarify, existing Landverse assets won’t be transferable into Genesis, but Zentry plans to migrate current Landverse servers to Ronin at a later date.

What Does This Mean for Web3 Gaming?
Zentry is making major moves in the blockchain gaming space. In August 2023, the company secured $150 million in early-stage funding, positioning itself as a key player in the industry. As part of its integration with Ronin, Zentry will now serve as a node validator and bring its ZENT token onto the platform, launching incentivized liquidity pools on Ronin’s Katana decentralized exchange.
Beyond the game itself, Zentry is also expanding its influence with the Nexus Player Portal, which was introduced on December 13. Designed to enhance player engagement, this portal offers:
✅ A universal digital identity
✅ A lifetime rewards system
✅ Cross-platform integration for seamless gaming
Zentry’s CEO, Jarindr Thitadilaka, has big plans for the future, stating:
“Together, we’re paving the way for future biggest gaming IPs to transition into Web3. […] We are fully committed to making our vision of onboarding 50 million global users to Web3 gaming a reality.”

The Broader Ronin Ecosystem
Sky Mavis’ Ronin Network is proving itself as one of the most robust blockchain gaming platforms. Initially built to support Axie Infinity, Ronin has evolved to accommodate over 4.7 million monthly users, processing over 3 million transactions daily.
In addition to Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis, Ragnarok: Monster World will also be hosted on Ronin, further strengthening its ecosystem. Despite a 21% workforce layoff in late 2023, Sky Mavis remains committed to expanding its platform, hinting at new game premieres in 2025.

A Legendary Franchise Returns
It’s fascinating to see the evolution of Ragnarok Online, a world originally inspired by the South Korean comic Ragnarök—which itself takes (very loose!) inspiration from Norse mythology. From its humble beginnings in 2002 under South Korean developer Gravity, the game has spawned countless expansions, adaptations, and now, a new Web3 reincarnation.
With blockchain technology paving the way for new economic models, decentralized ownership, and innovative gameplay mechanics, Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis has the potential to reshape what MMORPG gaming looks like in the Web3 era.
Whether you’re a veteran adventurer from the original Ragnarok Online or a newcomer eager to explore this legendary universe, one thing’s for sure—the journey is just beginning. 🚀
